Beyond the Hype: The Prospects and Perils of Generative AI in Healthcare

Generative AI is revolutionizing various facets of healthcare, from drug discovery to personalized treatment. These advances, however, come with inherent risks – biases in data samples, assumptions, and analytics can lead to skewed results, potentially exacerbating health and societal disparities. Within the context of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as algorithms play a more central role in health research and practice, there's an urgent call for robust guiding principles. These should be rooted in our unique ethical, societal, religious and biomedical landscapes.

During this session, I will delve into our current endeavors, with a special focus on movement disorders and autism. Through this lens, I'll present the intricate balance of harnessing algorithms while emphasizing transparency, equity, and practical relevance. For a transformative healthcare landscape in the Kingdom, it's imperative to establish rigorous deployment protocols, ensure sustained monitoring post-integration, and champion diversity in data and team dynamics. This presentation serves both as a clarion call to unite forces in addressing these challenges and as a beacon for others navigating similar terrains.
