KSHI Stem Cell Core: Taking Saudi biomedical research to the next level

Abstract

The advent of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and genome engineering has revolutionized the field of regenerative medicine giving us the ability to 1) reprogram and represent via iPSCs, any genome of the approx. 8 billion people in the world 2) generate the >208 different cell types of the human body in efforts towards realization of organs and cellular therapy, disease modelling in a dish, platforms for drug and toxicology screening 3) edit any of the 30,000 genes or any part of human genome to fix disease mutations. We are establishing a stem cell core that would provide researchers (on a fee for service model) the derivation and pluripotency characterization of human iPSCs, genome engineering via CRIPSR/Cas9 and TALENs, and directed differentiations of iPSCs towards multiple cell and organoid lineages.
