Francis Waldvogel trained as a physician and infectious disease specialist at the Universities of Geneva, Paris and Harvard. He was Chairman of Medicine in Geneva, Vice President of the Swiss Science Council, President of the Swiss Federal Polytechnic Institutes. He chaired the Novartis Venture Funds, Symbiotics Microfinance Inc., and several social and cultural institutions in Switzerland. He is a member of the Swiss and European Academies of Medicine and Science.
