Presenter:

Dr. Maurizio Pesce, head of the Tissue engineering Unit at Centro Cardiologico Monzino in Milan, Italy

Bio

Dr. Maurizio Pesce is the head of the Tissue engineering Unit at Centro Cardiologico Monzino in Milan, a highly specialized research and care center uniquely dedicated to cardiovascular diseases. He obtained his first PhD in Embryology at the University of Rome in mid-90's and worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Heidelberg at the EMBL. He has a more than 20 year expertise in cardiovascular diseases pathology modeling, regeneration and engineering. He uses a widely interdisciplinary approach ranging from dissection of biophysical regulation of gene expression to molecular control of pathology setting, epigenetics, classical tissue engineering models and so on. He recently introduced the concept of mechano-therapeutics as a new way to treat cardiovascular pathology setting based on targeting of cellular mechanical signaling.
